The ideal scenario would be for these two recommendations to be used in tandem. This would result in both a top-down and bottom-up approach for fixing the foster care system. The final section provides implications if these recommendations are not taken into consideration. They show how maintaining the status quo is not an option for fixing the foster care system. Additionally, there is a call to action for policymakers and policy analysts to bridge the political gap. This action will result in the creation policies and solutions that are for the wellbeing of children in the Lone Star State. Introduction The foster care system in Texas is broken and policies like SB-4 and HB-3859 continue to fracture the system even more. The high volume of children entering into the system and the substantial number of caseloads for social workers are exacerbated by the current policies. There needs to be strategies to reduce the severity of this problem. It is our job as policymakers and policy analysts to address this issue so that ALL the children of the Lone Star State have a better future. Characteristics Of Pessimism In The Great Gatsby - 1160 Words

The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is filled with many characters with different personalities and traits. Although there are some characters with desirable qualities, Daisy Buchanan has qualities in which I do not want to embrace. Daisy has a pessimistic outlook on the world. When discussing the gender of her child, she says, â€Å"‘All right, I said, Im glad its a girl. And I hope shell be a fool--thats the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool (Fitzgerald 17). Daisy seems to be somewhat discouraged about her role in the world and takes it that in society she has to be pretty because that the best a girl can be. Along with her pessimism, she can be quite self- centered and hurtful. After Daisy†¦show more content†¦Yes, receiving news like this creates an instantaneous feeling of fear. Instead of thinking the worst outcome and having a pessimistic attitude, I thought of it as an inspiration. I apply this concept to major thing s like that but also things as simple as getting a bad grade on a test. It is much easier to turn bad things into an inspiration or a more positive thing than to burden yourself with the worst feeling. Although it is a quality no one wants to attribute to themselves, being self-centered is often overlooked. This is a quality that has been present in everyones lives. There are times where I can be self-centered, even small things like dominating a conversation or having poor listening skills. These are times that I am unintentionally being self-centered. This is a quality in which it is very easy to creep into your life if you’re not careful. I try to put others before myself. One time, a little girl behind me in line for the bathroom was crying to her mother about how bad she needed to go. Instead of going, I let her go before me knowing that she needed it a lot more than I did. Similar to being self-centered, money can easily dictate attitude as well. Educational Sphere Of United Arab Emirates †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Educational Sphere Of United Arab Emirates. Answer: Khan academy is known as one of the most incredible platforms for children and adults alike where they can learn from a range of subjects and areas according to their own necessity. Khan academy is regarded in high esteem due to their successful use of technology in imparting education to such a huge audience base across the world (Morgan 2014). The services offered by them are free of charge and it makes the academy one of its kind as it provides private guidance by expert tutors to those who are in need for help on any subject. They generally specialize in the field of mathematics (Ruiprez-Valiente et al. 2015). The online platform for education engages students from high and middle school and makes the subject interesting for them and hence easier to understand on the interactive platform of Khan Academy. Khan academy is referred to as a trend setter in the field of online education and has popularized the idea and notion of home-schooling and private tutorials. The founder of the Khan Academy is Salman Khan and his enthusiasm in spreading the wave of education to all corners of the earth is high. The academy has its influence in many countries around the world. In this project, the discussion will be in respect to its contribution in the educational sphere of United Arab Emirates. Nowadays, the web learning ends up being increasingly implemented. Numerous conventional colleges began to start courses online at free of cost. It aims at a simple and popular strategy to accomplish information in relatively every field, from law and library, to human sciences and mathematics for example, biological research and social science or history. Web based learning is an excellent contrasting option to conventional colleges, particularly for people who cannot manage the time that is needed and the money required to take genuine courses. An organization like Khan Academy does the same on the online platform and has been considered a very popular website for education. It ranks among the top online educational websites that provide tutorials and back-ups to student who need assistance on the subject (Khan Academy 2018). There are various advantages and disadvantages of the same concept and that has to be kept in mind while a literature review for Khan Academy is being done. It is obvious that maximum number of individuals still think about customary colleges to be the best way to attend degrees and get recognition, internet learning comes out as an extraordinary option. Pupils have the incredible opportunity to select the time when they wish to study it depends on their availability. It is an incredible method to consider numerous fields and to help the extent of self-inspiration. Internet learning is so successful on the grounds that students can complete their homework quickly, and there is extra amount of time left for side interests or for finding an occupation (Emanuel 2013). An entrance to all assets of a customary course enables members to learn wherever they are, abandoning them the flexibility to pick the ideal prospect for study (Krause et al. 2015). With fundamentally an Internet connection, a man can go to various courses. Among the benefits of web-based learning are simply the responsible attitude and self-motivation of the students that al low them to grow effectively. The disadvantages of the same process remain the fact that online study cannot create the classroom environment that a student receives in a school or college (Arkorful and Abaidoo 2015). The proper development of all the skills adheres to the fact that a proper environment is required to study and involve into discussions. The online platform does not allow any such interactions and discussion platform and hence leads to problems in pursuance of various subjects, especially those that require practical classes. The Khan academy has helped students from UAE in subjects like Mathematics immensely. Students who were weak in the subject took up the case with Khan academy and they got excellent results as they saw a substantial jump in their overall grades. The academy provides learning materials that is very updated with the educational scenario of the country and hence it makes it possible for the students to take a step ahead of others and score brilliantly in the examinations. The digital learning process has made the tutorials fun and short and this has made the students interested in the learning process that Khan academy offers to its users. UAE is a country that is oriented towards commerce and hence mathematics remains the subject of major concern in the place. The complexity of a subject like mathematics is completely toned down with the help of digital means and it is turned into an engaging and interactive subject so that students are interested in it and they do not take any stress while preparing for the subject (Khan Academy 2018). The credibility of an online source such as Khan academy is subject to evaluation but in a country like UAE, the results it has generated over the last makes it the first choice for people who seek guidance on mathematics. The support teaching staff of the academy are highly qualified and they completely understand the online teaching procedure hence it is easier for the student to follow what the teacher says and explains. The entire process has simplified the education system prevalent in the country and has made students to remain stress free and enjoy the entire process of education. Mathematics is a subject that needs attention, and it is always seen that most of the students choose to move away from the subject. However, with its user friendly content the Khan academy has been successful in bringing students back to study the subject and make sure that they are not stressed and they enjoy the entire learning procedure (Khan Academy 2018). The Khan academy is a reputed organization in the field of online tutorials and people have been resorting to its help from a substantial period of time. The Khan academy has been established 9 years back and it has much room for improvements yet. The website has catered to all the needs of the students successfully but it still lacks some of the chapter of mathematics that are important in the academic pursuance. The Khan academy has managed to be a market leader and many brands in the online sphere have imitated them and completely failed. The online platform is vast and has huge demand for the academic sector and if penetrated with good content then it will lead to its success in the market. The online market is filled with opportunities that can grow the business and allow financial growth to an organization. The emergence of the online market is a new phenomenon, it has lead to many businesses growing in the market, and it enables the possibility to help grow new businesses and gain the customer base that is prevalent in the market. The market is always filled with customers who look for services and it is seen that the Khan academy has successfully took up the market and has gained the consumer base that look up for education in the online sphere. Porcupines On this page you will find links to the best porcupine sites on the internet. If you know of a porcupine site that should be listed here, e-mail us the internet address and we'll post it. Porcupine Links Porcupines WNR Magazine - Porcupines Porcupines African Crested Porcupines Porcupines Porcupines; Order: rodent. A porcupine's habitat and range: forests, deserts, and grasslands of North and South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Porcupines can weigh from 2 to 60 pounds depending on the species. A prickly coat of needle-sharp quills is the porcupine's best defense. Ordinarily the quills lay flat. But if an enemy approaches the porcupine will raise the quills and spread them, usually deterring the enemy. If the animal is not deterred the quills may lodge in the enemy's flesh when the porcupine brushes against the animal. New quills grow in to relace the lost ones. The porcupine cannot throw its quills. There are two groups of porcupines. They differ in habits and appearance. The porcupines of the Americas also climb trees. Some have been seen using their tails to hold on to branches. In the winter the North American porcupine eats evergreen needles and bark. When spring arrives they feed on leaves, buds, stems, and fruit. Depending on the species, the gestation period is from 2 to 7 months, bearing 1 to 4 young. The life span of captive porcupines can be as much as 20 years. The Future of the Porcupine They are nearsighted, have a deep red shine to their eyes, and four toes on each front foot and five toes on each hind foot. But, apparently, looking different does not stop porcupines from being the most popular animals at the Museum. The habitat is home to two resident porcupines, who are aptly named Cactus and Lance. From the February 1996 issue: Wisconsin's prickly rodent The misunderstood porcupine is a boon to the Northwoods. Alan D. Martin The common porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum) is a wonderful, necessary member of Northwoods wildlife, and I'm glad it is here in large numbers. Throw stones if you want, but I'll stand by porkies. They kill trees, you say? Well, owls, wood ducks, hooded mergansers and woodpeckers need homes too, and porcupines are part of nature's snag-making team. Porcupines hurt my dog, you say? Well, most dogs learn from that first painful mistake and don't go near porcupines again. Only one of my family's six hunting dogs hasn't gotten a snootful of quills in recent years, and only one needed a second dose to learn the lesson. The other grousers now bark, from a distance, at the quill-pig. Because of such mishaps, some porcupines are shot on sight. That's a real shame because the porky isn't only the prickliest resident of the Northwoods, it's also one of the most interesting. Porkies are the second-largest rodent in Wisconsin after the North American beaver. They can weigh 30 pounds or more in summer but their weight drops dramatically during the lean months of winter. Porcupines live in the northern two-thirds of the state in a territory that extends in a V-shape from about the Ellsworth area in Pierce County down to Wisconsin Dells and back up toward Green Bay. Porcupines, like most rodents, are vegetarians. Their winter diet consists of conifer needles, buds and the bark of pines, hemlock, maples and birch. How these critters survive on foods with a protein content of only two to three percent is truly amazing. Porcupines are sloppy eaters who drop a lot of greenery that provides a welcome snack for white-tailed deer during deep snows. If you spot a small pile of freshly-snipped branches on a winter walk, it's likely porcupines are nearby. Their winter dens are easy to find -- just follow your eyes and nose. Porcupines winter in caves and hollow logs. They travel the same paths every day. Near their dens you'll see distinctive fecal piles and smell the strong scent of concentrated urine. In spring, abundant food allows the porcupines to roam more freely, and they grow fat and healthy while dozing in the dog days of summer. Porkies consume tender shoots, succulent twigs, roots, seeds and (often to the dismay of gardeners) apples, melons, carrots, potatoes and other juicy produce. Nor are the gardener's tools immune to the porcupine's gouging incisors. The animals need sodium to rid their bodies of high levels of potassium from leaves and bark. Axe handles, hoes, canoe paddles, gloves and anything else touched by salty human hands are porcupine magnets. When defending itself, a porcupine sits

Humanities Research Paper Essay Example

Humanities Research Paper Essay Humanities are disciplines that studies human in his spiritual, mental, moral, cultural, and social activities. By the object, subject, and methodology of the study, they are often identified or intersect with the social sciences, contrasting with the natural and physical sciences on the basis of the criteria and method. If in other sciences precision is important, in the humanities, the vastness and complexity of understanding of the subject is important, so that, if possible, every person found in it something of its own, obtaining by that a certain aesthetic and intellectual satisfaction. It should be noted that, unlike the natural sciences, dominated by the subject-object relationship, in the humanities we are talking about the relationship of subject-subject (and therefore postulated the need for inter-subjective relations, dialogue, and communication with others). In addition, there is criticism of consciousness as a single consciousness as â€Å"monologism.† In this sense, the key thinkers of the philosophical and humanitarian paradigm change in 1917-1923 – Heidegger, Husserl, Rosenzweig, Wittgenstein, M. Buber, O. Rosenstock-Huessy, Bakhtin – continued and radicalized â€Å"postidealistic† â€Å"change in mindset† of the XIX century, worked out by Feuerbach, Kierkegaard, Marx, and Nietzsche on the clue of negative criticism in the late Schelling to Hegel’s philosophy. The humanities began to take shape in the institutionalized (university) discipline only in the XIX century. At this time, the complex of so-called humanities disciplines united under the name of â€Å"moral sciences.† (Geisteswissenschaften). The concept of a â€Å"moral sciences† is found in the translation by Shill A System of Logic by John Stuart Mill. The purpose of these sciences, according to Dilthey, is the experience of the manifestations of this reality and their comprehension and understanding. Karl-Otto Apel in his book The Transformation of Philosophy (1973) argued that such disciplines as various types of philology, simply cannot be part of the neopositivism theory – a circumstance which, of course, may be due to the fact that in the English-speaking Countries  «humanities » –  «humanitarian sciences† – are still considered through the pre-scientific experience of the â€Å"humanistic artes† – in particular, the rhetoric and literature criticism, whereas the concept of †science† continues to be guided by the ideal of natural-scientific method. Numerous companies ranging from Dell to HP are manufacturing laptops for their clients. In order to make sure its laptop industry undergoes a revolution, Hewlett Packard Company has enacted modalities to create a viable market for their laptops. Market Structure for HP laptops Over the recent years, HP laptops are the most sold in the market. The dominance in the market is because of their resilience in price control and upgraded technologies. Information technologists argu e that, HP is able to regulate market economy through its peculiar products. The quality of HP laptops is not a selfish guarantee of aggressiveness in the market, but rather market protectionism and increased sales. In 2008, the number of HP laptops sold was greater by two million as compared to the second placed Dell laptops. The switch from personal computer desktops to laptops is responsible for HP laptop markets structure. The market structure of HP laptops created because of increased shares, continue to outburst the laptop industry. For other laptop manufacturing companies to increase their sales, they must overshadow HP products must first something that needs a lot of effort and finances. The increased sales from HP products are because of proper branding strategies that helped in achieving market recognition. Increased HP shares are due to higher revenue generated from potential sales. Competitor companies like Dell, Acer and Toshiba are struggling to create brawny and superior illustrations, which will attract customer to buy their products (Display Search 2010, p.1). Possible Strategies of HP Laptop Competitors HP has theme in their business outsourcing strategies and this is being a market leader of computer laptops. If other competitor companies are not up to the task of creating market strength of their laptops, then there is no way out they can create pressure on HP products unless they come up with innovations in the lapto p technology. Competitor companies presently also manufacture same commodities ranging from monitors to laptops something that HP has already done; hence, the need to come up with innovations to meet the ever increasing market competition they face from HP. Other possible strategies from HP laptop competitors include cutting the price of their products between 14 and 20 percent to induce a war price market. Some companies like dell have now embarked on server growth mechanisms, which will act like an entry point into the HP monopolistic market. It is true that HP does not dominate all markets in the world. As a way to bring competition, competitor laptop manufacturers should embark on opening new market places all over the world especially in places where HP products do not dominate the market. On the other hand, it is important to note that, these HP competitors are now engaged in laptop up gradation to give them an upper hand over HP laptops. This has really helped these companies in attracting more customers toward their products.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Concepts of HP Laptops specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Conclusion In order to increase their sales through competition, I would like to see HP competitors launch new and featured laptop computers. For example, they can manufacture laptops with inbuilt TV tuner cards and modify the keyboard to a lighting one. Another modality to counter HP laptops is to manufacture laptops that sell at a cheaper price. In addition to that, these companies ought to make numerous advertisements so that their commodities become conversant to customers. This will boost customer loyalty hence sales and greater revenue generation. Reference List Display Search, 2010. Comparative Economic Systems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Comparative Economic Systems - Essay Example While proponents of this global economic model argue that this is the best possible system, there are also those who strongly oppose various aspects of this system. Taking a historical perspective, we see that the events of the two centuries are shaped and defined by the practice of capitalism. In a way, the peaking of European colonialism coincided with the consolidation of capitalist economic theory, which ultimately replaced it. In other words, the power and influence wielded by large multinational corporations today (which are the faà §ade of global capitalism) is nothing short of a variant of imperialism. While conceding that concentrations of power and finance in and of themselves do not lead to oppression and injustice, empirical evidence of the workings of the capitalist model suggests such an outcome. Similarly, while neo-liberal economic paradigm might have improved the Gross National Products of individual nations and improved the general standards of living, there are ot her aspects to human wellbeing that is not easily measured and fulfilled (Dixon, 1998, p.125). For instance, when assessing economic systems, it is only logical to consider the consequences to the environment alongside measures of human standard of living. There is an emerging consensus among intellectuals and research scholars that there is indeed a strong correlation between the two concepts. In other words, it is rarely a coincidence that poverty thrives in hostile geographies and that affluence is usually seen in ambient landscapes. Apart from the literal sense of the word, ‘environment’ could also be taken to mean the political and socio-cultural context of a particular geographic space. Further, global capitalism has led to the practice of exploitation of cheap labor offered by Third World nations. So, while global capitalism is further developing the length and breadth of its reach, it benefits certain
